ORDINARY MASIYAL


ORDINARY MASIYAL
This is a very simple Kuzhambu, we call it MASIYAL. For this use Masoor dal or yellow split Moong dal. Vegetables like ladies finger, carrot, tomato, chow chow and sambar onion are  (of course any one) are highly suitable. But a combination of onion and tomato will be wonderful. This is a super side dish also for dosa, idli, chappathi and of course rice.I will go straight to the MASIYAL as there are no special powder for it



Ingredients:
Masoor dal (called Mysore paruppu)
Split yellow moong dal.                          Any one.   2 cups cook and mash
Vegetables. As per your taste.
Regular sambar powder.          1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder.                     1/2 tsp
Asafoetida.                               1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds.                          1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seed.                        1/2 tsp
Lime juice.                                1tsp
Green chilli.                               2 (split into two)
Ginger ground.                          1/2 tsp

Procedure:
 Cook any one of the dal and mash  it well
In a tawa add 3tsp of ginglee oil.
Season, mustard, methi,chilli,ginger, curry leaves and add desired vegetable.
Sauté the vegetables for a minute.
Add one cup of water and allow the vegetable to get cooked.
Add salt ,sambar powder, asafoetida and turmeric powder.
Let it boil for two minutes.
Add the mashed dal , mix together and allow it to boil for two minutes.
Switch off the stove and then add lime juice and cut coriander bits.
Note: This MASIYAL does not need tamarind.
